MASSARO PROJECTS
The following are a selection of projects Massaro has completed in various select markets.
Core Spaces - Oliv State College
Massaro Corporation, partnered with J. H. Findorff & Son, Inc., was awarded the multifamily residential/student housing complex project at the start of 2021. Chicago-based developer Core Spaces worked with New Jersey's OGP Architects, LLP to develop a 12-story mixed-use facility, with two floors for non-residential use and 10 floors for apartments. The complex is located on East College Avenue adjacent to The Pennsylvania State University.
State College Area School District - State College High School
Massaro CM Services was hired by the State College Area School District to provide agency construction management services for the district’s high school renovation project. Renovations and additions to the occupied facility started in Summer 2015 and were completed in July 2019. Phase I and II were completed in January 2018 and the District utilized the new classroom pods and renovated kitchen cafeteria during that time.
One on Centre Apartments
Park7 Group, the developer for the One on Centre apartments, hired Massaro Corporation to build a mixed-use housing complex in the heart of the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The One on Centre is within walking distance to both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon. Construction began in early summer of 2016 and had a 26 month construction schedule. The project was ready for the 2018-2019 school year.
400 Beaver Street
400 Beaver Street is a three-story, 9,500 square-foot mixed-use building located in downtown Sewickley, Pennsylvania. The scope of work included the complete demolition of the existing building to make room for the new, sustainable and high-performance building.
Best of the Batch Clubhouse
Best of the Batch Foundation was founded in 1999 by former Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback, Charlie Batch, to give back to his hometown of Homestead, PA. It offers over 12 programs to school-aged children, annually serving more than 3,800 children and their families throughout with Western Pennsylvania counties. Its showcase is the "Clubhouse", where the majority of the day-to-day programming takes place. After 13 years in the existing building, they've outgrown the space.
AHN Allegheny General Hospital Academic Cancer Center
The Academic Cancer Center is the the network’s hub for leading-edge cancer research and complex patient care. It provides a wide-array of clinical and support services for cancer patients, including, state-of-the-art radiation oncology capabilities.
AHN Wexford Hospital
Wexford Hospital award the Massaro/Gilbane joint venture team the new construction of its Wexford Hospital. The new hospital will be a free-standing hospital located on 10 acres in Wexford Township.
Skyvue Apartments - Rise Real Estate
Ambling (now RISE) hired Massaro Corporation as the construction manager for the SkyVue Apartment building, located along Fifth and Forbes Avenues in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Flats on Fifth - Castlebrook Development Corporation
Castlebrook Development Corporation awarded Massaro Corporation the Flats of Fifth project located near PPG Paints Arena. Construction commenced in early June of 2015 on the seven story, 69 unit apartment building.
Gold Lot 1 Garage
The project was a new ground-up precast concrete parking structure. The parking structure is six stories, one level of on grade
parking, lobby, garage management and security offices, indoor bicycle storage, electric vehicle charging stations and 5 elevated levels of parking. It has architectural features consisting of vertical aluminum air foil screening, perforated metal panel screening, and green screens for vegetation growth. The elevator and stair towers are glass for security and visibility with architectural lighting.
UPMC - Hampton Ambulatory Center
The ultra-modern design includes both a unique structural open design as well as many high-end finishes.
Auberle Goal Building
Housing/Programming Building
Auberle is a faith-based, Catholic agency whose mission is to help troubled children and families heal themselves. They have helped thousands of children and their families through residential care, foster care, emergency shelter, in-home intervention, education and community programs throughout the past 50 years.
City Theatre Renovations
The City Theatre hired Massaro Corporation to demo the majority of the existing Walter Long Production Shop and rebuild a new facility now named the Philip Chosky Production Center.
Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Care
Massaro was awarded the new construction of Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Care Center. The 128,320 square foot medical office building (MOB) was constructed behind the existing MOB on a 12.5 acre site
Fanti USA - Manufacturing Facility Renovation
Massaro was awarded the manufacturing plant renovation project through a negotiated procurement process. Gruppo Fanti, a metal packaging manufacturing company headquartered in Bologna, Italy, invested $30 million to open its first U.S.-based manufacturing plant in Weirton, West Virginia.
West Virginia University - Advanced Engineering Research Building
Massaro Corporation was awarded the construction of the Advanced Engineering Research Building in the Evansdale Campus.
Armstrong County Memorial Hospital
Emergency Department Renovations
Massaro expanded and renovated the existing 7,500 square foot emergency department by an additional 7,500 square feet. The renovation included a new front entrance and roof top units. Plans to expand the emergency department included renovated existing offices into new nursing stations, trauma, triage, and treatment rooms.
Carnegie Library - Allegheny Branch
Massaro Corporation was selected by the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh to build a new 15,000 square foot library on the North Side of Pittsburgh.
Marriott - South Side SpringHill Suites
Massaro Corporation began work at the South Side Works SpringHill Suites after the shell framing construction was already erected. When another general contractor was unable to complete the scope of work, Massaro assumed general construction services.
Atlantic Aviation
This project included demolition and renovation for 2 airport terminals over the course of 6 months.
Marriott - North Shore SpringHill Suites
Massaro completed construction of a ten story, 134,997 square foot hotel on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. SpringHill Suites, faced in cast stone and brick veneer, consists of ten floors, 198 guest suites, an underground mechanical room, three conference rooms, street level retail space, an indoor pool and whirlpool, in-suite Jacuzzis, an exercise room, two passenger elevators, and one service elevator.
Allegheny College
Carr Hall
Massaro Corporation was hired to perform design/build services for the renovation of Allegheny College's Carr Hall. This project includes structural floor construction within an existing building.
Benedictine Sisters - New Convent
The new 31,000 square foot Benedictine Sisters Convent consists of 40 private rooms each with a private bath and walk in closet and ten of which are designed to meet accessibility standards so the elderly Sisters can age in peace. The public areas consist of a communal dining area with commercial kitchen, a 50 seat chapel, library, activities room, conference area, and administrative offices.
Bethel Park School District - Bethel Park High School
Massaro CM Services was hired by the Bethel Park School District to provide preconstruction and construction management services for the district's new 321,000 square foot replacement high school. This project was constructed adjacent to the existing high school along Church Road.
CLASS - Community Living and Support Space
Massaro Design Build, LLP was selected to be the design-builder of an interior renovation for Community Living and Support Services (CLASS). The goal of the renovations were to create a space for an existing program in another facility, so that all programs can be consolidated into one facility.
EQT - New Corporate Headquarters
Massaro Corporation was awarded the contract to renovate 12 floors of office space totaling 257,000 square feet at 625 Liberty Avenue for Equitable Resources Inc. (EQT).
Duquesne University College Hall MEP Upgrades
Massaro was chosen for the MEP upgrades and renovation of rooms 104 and 105 at Duquesne University, College Hall. MEP upgrades included replacing the building generators, fire pump, adding a sprinkler bulk main and standpipe, and updating the building's emergency power.
Highmark - Fifth Avenue Place - 4th, 22nd, and 25th Floor
Massaro was awarded the 25th floor of the Highmark building on Fifth Avenue in August 2017. The fast track schedule was set by the owners and after a month, they selected Massaro to complete other renovations. While Massaro was renovating the 25th floor, a quarter of the 22nd floor and half of the 4th floor was added to the project scope.
Franciscan University of Steubenville - Holy Spirit Friary
Massaro Corporation negotiated with Franciscan University of Steubenville to build a 24,000 square foot, 2-story friary.
Hill House Economic Development Corporation - Centre Heldman Plaza Shop 'N Save
The Hill House Economic Development Corporation (HHEDC) developed a much needed retail center located on Centre Avenue and Heldman Streets in the Middle Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Highland Wallace Building
The historic Highland Building was originally built in 1910 in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood. It once famously housed the largest electric roof sign in the world. The Allegheny County Light Company sign was first illuminated on August 23, 1910.
A century later, this site was once again poised to be illuminated along with all of Pittsburgh's East End as the area continues it's revitalization into a chic urban destination.
UPMC - Clinical Lab Building
Massaro Corporation was selected to renovate the building previously know as the John J. Rangos Sr. Research building located at 3460 Fifth Avenue. (The new John J. Rangos Sr. Research Center was relocated to Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville.) The transformation of the existing structure includes interior demolition, of nine floors and the rebuilding of laboratory and administrative support space to provide lab services for all of the Oakland hospitals and physician offices.
Carnegie Library - Homewood Branch
Massaro Corporation completed renovations to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Homewood Branch. Built in 1904, this four-story brick structure was given a new life while maintaining the spirit of the old. All efforts were made to reuse and restore the old fixtures and woodwork to recapture the library�s past while making it compatible with the present.
Cioppino Restaurant
Massaro Corporation was hired to complete the interior fit-out for Cioppino Seafood - Chophouse - Bar, located at 2350 Railroad Street in Pittsburgh's Strip District. This brick and glass urban building is situated along the railroad tracks toward the Allegheny River, between 23rd and 24th Streets in the Cork Factory.
421 7th Avenue
PCI Renovation
Massaro Properties, LLC purchased 421 7th Avenue in early 2008. This six-story, 51,000 square foot office building, located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh.
Animal Friends
Caryl Gates Gluck Resource Center
The Caryl Gates Gluck Resource Center, located on Camp Horne Road in Pittsburgh's North Hills, includes a state-of-the art medical suite, innovative animal caging and housing arrangements and an education wing complete with interactive classroom, resource library and pet-assisted therapy and wellness suite.
Allegheny College
Bentley Hall
Massaro Corporation was hired to perform construction management services for the historic renovation of Allegheny College's Bentley Hall.
Highmark - Fifth Avenue Place - 3rd Floor Conference Area
Massaro Corporation was awarded the construction of existing space for the conference room area on the 3rd floor of Highmark's Fifth Avenue Place via a negotiated process.
Art Institute of Pittsburgh
Shannon Hall
The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Try Street Associates LP converted the Try Street Terminal, located in Pittsburgh's Central Business District, into student housing. This nine-story building was originally constructed in 1921 and has since served as a freight depot, grocery warehouse, meat packing plant, and storage facility for local businesses.
Duquesne University - Keller Fieldhouse
Massaro Design Build, LLP was contracted by Duquesne University to design and renovate approximately 3500 square feet of existing locker room space, and create a small 400 square foot attached addition for football equipment storage.
Conemaugh D Building
After completing several successful projects for Duke Lifepoint, Massaro was awarded the addition and renovation project for Conemaugh Health System, D-Building Addition and Renovation. The project consist of a new five-story addition that will house clinical components including central sterile processing, diagnostics, emergency, cardiology and ambulatory surgical staging departments.
Duquesne Light - DQE Southside Renovations
Massaro Corporation was selected to be the design-builder of this two-story, 12,000 square foot tenant build-out for a branch of Duquesne Light's Corporate offices.
DuBois Area School District - Wasson Elementary
The DuBois Area School District (DASD) hired Massaro CM Services to act as their construction manager to oversee the design and construction phases for a project at Wasson Elementary School. DASD is in the process of consolidation their eight existing elementary schools into four schools that will provide state of the art teaching facilities including STEM classrooms and modern music and art facilities to their students. The renovation portion of the project was an occupied, phased renovation.
Allegheny College - North Village Housing - Phase I
Massaro was hired by Allegheny College to construct the new student housing complex.
Allegheny Health Network
St. Vincent Hospital - Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Massaro Corporation was awarded the two-story clinic renovation located at St. Vincent Hospital via a negotiated bid process. The project included the renovation the first and second floor of the OSI Building to accommodate the relocation of the pulmonary rehab/sleep lab and chest disease offices, which were previously located at 3580 Peach Street and cardiac rehab previously located in the Hardner Building.
Campbells Run Business Center 200
In April 2015, Massaro began construction for Massaro Properties' latest warehouse/flex and office space at the Campbells Run Business Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
This 22,000 square foot office/flex space is a "built-to-suit" opportunity for a single tenant user or a multi-tenant use. The finished building includes high-end finishes and features as well as energy efficient HVAC.
AHN Jefferson Regional Medical Center - Operating Room Addition
AHN Jefferson Hospital awarded Massaro the contract to complete the new 32,000 square foot addition and 12,000 square foot renovation to its operating rooms and support space.
Braddock Redux Community Center
John Fetterman, Mayor of Braddock, and executive director of the non-profit organization Braddock Redux, hired Massaro Corporation to restore a 110 year-old church, in Braddock Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh Parking Authority - First Avenue Garage
This six-level, 435,000 square foot, 1,280 car parking garage was built with a pre-cast concrete structure and pre-cast panel facade.
Fairmont State University - University Terrace
Massaro was awarded the construction of the student dormitory buildings at Fairmont State University via a hard bid.
The new structures consists of two, four-story light gauge metal and steel frame buildings with CMU stair and elevator towers.
Enerplus
Enerplus is located in the Southpointe Business Park, in Cecil Township, PA. It is a 10,000 square foot design/ build interior fit-out built for a Canadian-based Marcelus Shale company.
North Allegheny School District
Massaro CM Services was hired to execute full construction management services for the North Allegheny School District. During the summers of 2015 and 2016, Massaro CM managed a fast-paced renovation for Bradford Woods Elementary School, Marshall Elementary School, and Marshall Middle School.
Marriott - North Shore Residence Inn
The North Shore Residence Inn is a high-end, 180 suite-style hotel, conveniently located near some of Pittsburgh's finest entertainment destinations. Massaro Corporation self-performed concrete, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, division 10, appliance installation and OFCI (owner-furnished contractor installed) items.
Carlow University Grace Hall
Massaro Design Build was hired to handle the relocation of university functions housed on five floors of Grace Hall in multiple phases during renovations being performed by Massaro Corporation. Relocation consisted of nine departments moved into temporary areas in five other buildings.
The Landing Hotel - River's Casiono
Massaro was awarded the general construction of The Landing Hotel. It is located adjacent to the Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh's North Shore, attached via a private glass facade walkway enabling hotel guests to utilize casino amenities. The seven-story, luxury hotel provides for 219 rooms, a fitness room, a lobby bar/buffet area and a registration lobby that connects to the existing casino entry. The 160,000 square foot hotel has an entry/access point through the lobby to an outdoor terrace, an event space and the river walk.
Cork Factory II Apartments, LLC - Lot 24
The Cork Factory Lot 24 is a four story, 96-unit apartment rental building located in Pittsburgh's Strip District. The building has high-end interior finishes, stainless steel appliances, high ceilings and private balconies to give each apartment a unique and luxurious feel.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania - Main Campus Housing
Massaro was awarded the project to construct a four phase student housing revival for IUP. The state-of-the-art housing project lasted more than four years and became the highlight of the campus.
Allegheny College
Vukovich Center for Communication Arts
Massaro was hired by Allegheny College to construct the new home for the theater arts department named the Vukovich Center for Communication Arts.
Freeport Area School District - Freeport Middle School
Freeport Area School District awarded Massaro Corporation the general construction package, via bid process, to construct the new Freeport Area Middle School.
Auberle St. Pius Girls Home
The Girls' Home is a non-profit program where teenage girls are assisted in finding employment and making the transition into adulthood. This design/build project consisted of the renovation of three stories and the basement of the existing facility.
The Arnold Palmer Learning Center - The First Tee of Pittsburgh
Massaro Corporation was awarded the new construction of a clubhouse located on the Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park, formerly known as Schenley Park Golf Course. It is the only golf course within the city limits and is situated between Oakland and Squirrel Hill. The project is on City property so the new building is a collaboration between the Department of Public Work and the non-profit company, The First Tee of Pittsburgh. First Tee is the current and future tenant of the property, and runs the facility and the course as a public amenity.
Allegheny College
North Village Housing - Phase II
North Village Phase II is the second and final phase of on-campus student housing at Allegheny College. Massaro Corporation and WTW Architects were selected as the design/builder through a competitive RFP process.
Neighborhood Academy - New Academic and Athletic Buildings
The Neighborhood Academy selected Massaro Corporation, through a negotiated delivery method, to build its new urban campus. The new campus consists of an academic building and a field house/gymnasium.
UPMC Mercy Central Sterile Processing
The CSP (Central Sterile Processing) project at UPMC consists of multiple phases and enabling projects at UPMC Mercy. It serves to clean and sterilize all instruments used during surgery for the entire hospital. The existing space was at the end of its useful lifecycle and needed to be renovated. In order for this to happen, a temporary CSP needed to be constructed on the 3rd floor to allow functionality while the renovation of its existing space was underway.
UPMC - Magee Womens Hospital - Womens Care Birthing Center
Massaro Corporation was awarded the multi-phased, interior renovation project of Magee Womens Hospital, Women Care Birthing Center (WCBC)on floors one, two and four.
Carlow University Library Renovation and New University Commons
Massaro was hired by Carlow University for the complete renovation of an existing library into a new University Commons building complete with a new modern library with a student union and entertainment venue.
Holiday Inn Express - North Shore
Massaro completed the construction of the Holiday Inn Express located on Federal Street, adjacent to PNC Park.
Conemaugh Ebensburg Outpatient Care Center
The project scope consists of the construction of a new one-story, 41,505 sf Outpatient Care Center on an existing previously developed 5.6 acre site and provides a one-stop, convenient location for a variety of outpatient services.
Central Catholic High School - Auditorium Renovations
Work commenced to modernize the auditorium of the Flemish Gothic-style building located on Fifth Avenue, a designated historic landmark in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Massaro Corporation was contracted to restore the 900-seat performing arts facility to its original appearance, while including modern features to enhance school functions and performances.
EXCO - North Coast Energy Inc.
Exco-North Coast Energy Inc contracted Massaro Corporation to provide design/build services for its new 50,000 square foot offices at 3000 Ericsson Dr, Warrendale.
Carnegie Library - Carrick Branch
This two-story library building in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood replaces the existing, outdated 1-story Carrick Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
Meadville Medical Center | Vernon Place
Vernon Place is an 85,000 square foot, two-story, multiple specialty medical office building. This building is the first of the new medical-services-specific development, and is the anchor for future establishments offering similar services in the development.
University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown Campus – E&S Chemical Engineering Addition
University of Pittsburgh selected Bostwick Design Partnership to design an addition to the existing Engineering & Science Building at the University’s Johnstown Campus. Massaro was hired as the general contractor.
AHN Forbes Perioperative
Massaro was awarded the phased renovation and addition of AHN Forbes Hospital Perioperative Services Department. The project was a 13,000 square foot in-fill addition and a 16,000 square foot renovations/relocation.
