The Arnold Palmer Learning Center - The First Tee of Pittsburgh
Massaro Corporation was awarded the new construction of a clubhouse located on the Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park, formerly known as Schenley Park Golf Course. It is the only golf course within the city limits and is situated between Oakland and Squirrel Hill. The project is on City property so the new building is a collaboration between the Department of Public Work and the non-profit company, The First Tee of Pittsburgh. First Tee is the current and future tenant of the property, and runs the facility and the course as a public amenity.
The First Tee of Pittsburgh offers golf lessons along with life skills and leadership classes to at-risk city youths. The new LEED-certified clubhouse will include a learning center with simulators and other equipment for teaching golf and classrooms for other programming. The building will feature a steel frame with a concrete foundation and PVC aluminum siding mixed with brick for its two stories and basement. It will also include a kitchenette, program areas, multi-purpose space, grounds office, pantry, and pro shop. The second floor will have a terrace while third floor of the structure is designated as storage.
