Freeport Area School District - Freeport Middle School

Freeport Area School District awarded Massaro Corporation the general construction package, via bid process, to construct the new Freeport Area Middle School.

The $33 million school for grades six through eight was a multiple prime project constructed behind the Freeport Area Senior High School on South Pike Road (Route 356) in Buffalo Township, and replaced the 90 year old junior high in Freeport. The one-story middle school was designed to be energy and water efficient, and constructed with sustainable materials able to minimize levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and similar chemicals. It uses natural ventilation and daylight to reduce energy consumption and costs. Science classrooms have full labs. Technical education rooms are state-of-the-art with "clean rooms" and "dirty rooms" for different vocational programs. Classrooms have wifi electronic smart boards. The design also included a larger library, full-sized gym with a separate fitness facility, and a 500-seat auditorium for musical and stage productions. The layout houses each grade level in its own “neighborhood” of classrooms, computer and science
labs, and special education rooms.
