In 2015, Massaro Construction Group collaborated with the Hill House Association, Richard Garland (RSG, Inc) and CM Solutions on an initiative to provide opportunities for Hill District residents to become involved in the trades and work on the construction projects underway in their community.
This program is called “Constructing Our Future”. Its goal is to increase the number of minority community members who can become eligible to work on construction projects in the Hill District. We have carefully looked at the training needs to increase inclusion of minorities in our local unions. To this end, we have been partnering with the carpenters and laborer unions to work with us to ensure the hiring of minority residents meet their testing requirements.
Results from the first program include:
- 110 interested parties
- 30 individuals were selected to participate in training to prepare for trade union testing
- 24 of those 30 individuals graduated on July 1, 2015
- 14 graduates are currently employed
The second phase of this program is currently underway and has been organized by Massaro Construction Group, Auberle, Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, CareerLink, and RSG Inc. Graduation for the current class is planned for May 18, 2016.
