2nd Annual Constructing Our Future Program
September 1, 2016
Massaro believes in serving the communities in which we work. This includes connecting under-served individuals in our community with an opportunity for a career in construction.
The goal of the program is to take underserved, underprivileged folks from within our communities and prepare them with both technical and life skill training to equip them to take (and pass!) an entrance exam into a union trade. Did you know that there are approximately 15 trade unions represented in Western Pa?!
There are several barriers for some people that keep them from being able to achieve this goal – lack of driver’s license, lack of proficiency in math, lack of understanding of expectations or work ethic needed to find success in the industry – and this program is aimed to eliminate all of those barriers and give people a fair opportunity. Massaro served as the program host, Auberle as the case manager, Career Link as the career advisor and RSG, Inc as a facilitator. We intentionally partnered with these organizations to ensure all participants would have the support and structure that they need to be successful.
The program ran for four weeks, with evening classes held twice a week at the Energy Innovation Center. Course work was split between math skills and life skills. All participants had to adhere to an attendance policy and participation policy in order to successfully complete the program.
Massaro and its partners are proud to say that all 22 participants successfully graduated from the program and Career Link will be tracking their journey as they take the entrance exam, interview and enter into the trade unions.
Congratulations to this year’s graduates!
